Reference Model

Definition

A framework for understanding significant relationships among the entities of some environment, and for the development of consistent standards or specifications supporting that environment. A reference model is based on a small number of unifying concepts and may beused as a basis for education and explaining standards to a non-specialist.

In this context the reference model is a conceptual framework for an archival system dedicated to preserving and maintaining access to digital information. It addresses the full range of archival preservation functions including ingest, archival storage, data management, access and dissemination.
