Long Term Archive

Definition

A collection of data moved to a repository for long-term retention, to be kept separate for compliance reasons or for moving off primary storage media. It can include a simple list of files or files organized under a directory or catalog structure, depending on how a particular program supports archiving.

Comments

A facility that provides permanent active archive functions for archived holdings during and beyond the scope of the mission or project, receiving responsibility for these holdings and providing long-term access to users. - EOSDIS
