CoMet The Python CoMet (Community Metrology) Toolkit has been developed to enable easy handling and processing of dataset error-covariance information. This toolkit aims to abstract away the complexity of dealing with uncertainties. There are a number of tools included in this toolkit, which are available on github and are installable via pip.
COVE The CEOS Visualization Environment (COVE) is a browser-based suite of tools for searching, analyzing and visualizing actual and potential satellite sensor coverage.

The Database for Imaging Multi-spectral Instruments and Tools for Radiometric Intercomparison (DIMITRI) manages L1 data from various medium resolution imagers over terrestrial targets chosen for their radiometric properties and/or the availability of in-situ radiometric measurements. DIMITRI comes with a suite of tools that allow comparison of the L1 data originating from various sensors in the database at Top Of the Atmosphere (TOA) level

ESA PDGS Data Cube

As part of the ESA activities the multi-mission ground systems are operated to acquire, process, archive and distribute data from ESA Missions, including the Heritage and the Third Party Missions. The dissemination services have been designed to support both interactive and automated access. To ensure, enhance and facilitate discovery and access of ESA Missions by a broader community, the ESA PDGS Data Cube service has been transferred into operation. The service, designed to fit the ESA Common Services architecture, is based on a paradigm aiming at pulling out the full potential of EO products providing access to large spatio-temporal data stored in ESA dissemination archives and enabling on-the-fly analysis-ready form.

ESOV NG ESOV - the Earth Observation Swath and Orbit Visualisation tool - provides users with the means to visualise the instrument swaths of all ESA Earth Observation Satellites and assist in understanding where and when satellite measurements are made and ground contact is possible.

KARIOS (Kanade Lucas Tomasi (KLT) -based Algorithm for Registration of Images from Observing System) is distributed under the Apache license v2.0.  Among its features, KARIOS enables:

  • Multi temporal geolocation to evaluate the geolocation stability of a mission
  • Absolute geolocation to evaluate the geolocation accuracy of an input image grid against a well-controlled absolute reference image
  • Band-to band registration to evaluate co-registration between image band grids, all within the same product
libRadtran libRadtran - library for radiative transfer - is a collection of C and Fortran functions and programs for calculation of solar and thermal radiation in the Earth's atmosphere. libRadtran is freely available under the GNU General Public License.
LPCS The USGS Land Product Characterization System (LPCS): The LPCS facilitates the application of multi-satellite and in-situ data for characterization and validation of satellite-derived land-related products.
MODTRAN The MODTRAN® (MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission)  was developed and continues to be maintained by Spectral Sciences, Inc. (SSI) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The code is embedded in many operational and research sensor and data processing systems, particularly those involving the removal of atmospheric effects, commonly referred to as atmospheric correction, in remotely sensed multi- and hyperspectral imaging (MSI and HSI)
OLIVE The OLIVE (On Line Interactive Validation Exercise) platform is dedicated to the validation of global biophysical products such as LAI (Leaf Area Index) and FAPAR (Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation). It was developed under the framework of the CEOS (Committee on Earth Observation Satellites) Land Product Validation (LPV) sub-group.
QA4SM The Quality Assurance for Soil Moisture (QA4SM) service provides the user with: 1) An easy-to-use interface for comparing satellite soil moisture data against land surface models and the international soil moisture network (ISMN). 2) A traceable and consistent methodology for all comparison. 3) Various filtering and scaling options to assess the impact of these on the validation results. 4) Traceable validation results in netCDF format and as visualisations (graphs and maps). The overall aim is to bring together methodologies and protocols used for the validation and quality control of soil moisture data products and provider users with traceable validation results.

Real time Analysis of Products and Information Dissemination (RAPID) The tool is a web-based data analysis and visualization platform integrating all kinds of Observational Platforms and NWP Model data:

  • Satellite.
  • Radar Data.
  • In situ Observations (Surface & Upper air).
  • NWP Models.

SALVAL (Surface ALbedo VALidation tool) brings together validation good practices protocols, ground data and satellite products to provide users with traceable (i.e. reproducible) validation results allowing reaching CEOS WGCV LPV validation Stage 4.


A common architecture for all Sentinel Toolboxes is being jointly developed by Brockmann Consult, Array Systems Computing and C-S called the Sentinel Application Platform (SNAP). The SNAP architecture is ideal for Earth Observation processing and analysis due to the following technological innovations: Extensibility, Portability, Modular Rich Client Platform, Generic EO Data Abstraction, Tiled Memory Management, and a Graph Processing Framework.

Streamer Streamer is a radiative transfer model that can be used for computing either radiances (intensities) or irradiances (fluxes) for a wide variety of atmospheric and surface conditions.
TELIMAGO Software development platform includes various libraries and standard image processing applications by GAEL System
THE CEOS  DATABASE CEOS Mission, Instruments and Measurements database.
USGS APPEEARS The Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AρρEEARS) offers a simple and efficient way to access and transform geospatial data from a variety of federal data archives. AρρEEARS enables users to subset geospatial datasets using spatial, temporal, and band/layer parameters.
WOPP The Water Optical Properties Processor (WOPP) allows calculation of the inherent optical properties of pure water at atmospheric pressure and at a specific water temperature and salinity, namely absorption (absorption coefficient), scattering (scattering coefficient for any angle, for back -, forward-, and total scattering) and real part of the index of refraction. It was developed by GKSS.
