How To: Get Information on Instruments

Use Case:
You are interested in getting additional information on a certain instrument which is related to distinct calibration/validation activities.

  • On the navigation bar on the left side, select 'Instruments'.

--> you will find a table listing platforms and internal links to related sensors for which additional information is provided through the CalVal Portal. Below the table, there is a section 'Additional Information' where further documents (e.g., related to SensorML standard) can be downloaded.

  • In the table, select a sensor, e.g. 'AATSR'.

--> you will find a page with links to specific information on the AATSR instrument:
    • General Information: an external link to a comprehensive info source, e.g. ESA Earthnet

    • Specific Information --> Spectral Response Functions

Currently, the CalVal Portal focusses on IVOS sensors, for which the spectral response functions are regarded as important quantities e.g. for radiative transfer modeling. For each sensor, a table is given here which provides this information in both graphical and tabular form. Furthermore, an internal link to a reference document is provided, which gives more details on how to use this kind of data for specific purposes.
The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) is providing information and data for Calibration (Cal) and Validation (Val) of Earth Observation (EO) data through this portal.
