Image Quality

Image Quality related to spatial resolution performances is the result of a complex relationship between:

  • the impulse response of the spaceborne optical imagery system,
  • its radiometric noise,
  • its sampling period or frequency and
  • the possible numeric on-ground deblurring and denoising post-processing (MTF compensation).

Combinations of those characteristics enable to indicate the quality and the amount of measurement, or more generally information that can be extracted from the imaging system.

Sampling Period (Image Quality) The sampling period is generally defined by the Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) or by its corresponding Nyquist Frequency defined as the half the inverse of the GSD.
